Old Farm Photos
Hard to believe this is Pierson’s Farm, the railway right there, and how the roadway has changed. The old wood shed porch is the farmhouse washroom now, all enclosed. The added on “bunk room” was built on top of the shed area and the old roof sits under the floor. Bunk room is adjoined upstairs to the main house and connected all sections together. Orrin’s brother, Josiah Pierson, found this photo. Orrin with his colt at ~10 years old. Orrin, Jackie, and Orrin’s father, Stephen, in front of the old wagon house (which is now the gift shop!) The Benefits of Grass-Fed
The Benefits of Grass-Fed
There is a large difference in nutritional value between beef that is grass-fed (pasture-fed) and grain-fed (feedlot-fed). It is seemingly the same product, but in reality has many differences. By eating grass-fed, you can:
- Increase your Vitamin E intake, which helps protect your cells from free radicals: Beef from pastured cows is up to four times higher in Vitamin E than beef from feedlot cattle
- Increase your CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) intake, which helps with weight control and lowers the risk of diabetes and cancer: Beef from pastured cows will have three to five times more amounts CLA than beef from feedlot cattle
- Decrease your risk of E. coli contamination: Beef cows raised on a pasture diet have dramatically lower risks of E. coli contamination when compared to beef from feedlot cattle
- Increase your Omega-3 fatty acid intake: Beef from pastured cows has two to four times more Omega-3 fat than beef from feedlot cattle
Learn more about the benefits of grass-fed here.
The natural diet of cattle is green grass, which is naturally high in Omega-3 fats and Vitamin E. When cattle are placed on a high grain diet, they lose their source of Omega-3s and thus their ability to store Omega-3s, as well as their source of Vitamin E. Omega-3 fats or “fatty acids” are one of the “good fats” that are essential for normal growth and development. They also play a role in the prevention of heart disease, cancer, and arthritis. Another important fact to keep in mind is that Omega-3 fats must come from your diet because your body cannot make them.
